Spending to save: what will it take to end extinction?

Factsheet

14 December 2022

Download

Australia’s wildlife and biodiversity is unique in the world, but we are currently losing more of our diverse plants and animals than any other developed nation. We know that countries that spend more money on conservation lose fewer species. Unfortunately, Australia spends much less than is required to ensure the recovery of our species and stop extinctions. For example, the US spend AU$1.93 billion per year on targeted species conservation while Australia spends just ~AU$122 million.

This factsheet reviews the resources Australia needs to invest to halt extinction.
