Report

31 January 2025

Download

This report summarises findings from a survey of community attitudes to environmental issues. This snapshot report presents the results of survey questions related to community support for:

  • Strengthening environmental laws to protect nature
  • Protecting native species' habitat from developments such as mines and urban expansion
  • Establishing national environmental standards for the protection of the environment from developments

It includes breakdowns of support by political alignment, age, gender and urban/rural area type.

The survey was conducted in November and December 2024. More than 3,500 Australians completed the survey. Participants were recruited through an online research panel and were matched to Australian census data on age, gender and location to ensure they fairly represent the Australian community.

This report was prepared for the Biodiversity Council by Monash University Behaviour Works Australia, who conducted the research.
