Submission to the South-east Marine Parks Network Management Plan Review

Submission

5 February 2022

Download

The current 2013 South-east Commonwealth Marine Reserves Network Management Plan expired on 30 June 2023. Parks Australia is preparing a new management plan for the South-east Network and is seeking public comment.

In our submission we explain that the South-East Marine Park Network requires reconfiguration, rigorous and transparent prioritisation with stakeholders, addition of new areas, and an increase the number of areas where fishing and mining are not allowed, to ensure the representation of all biodiversity in the region, including areas of high conservation and cultural value, biodiversity hotspots, and areas under greatest threat currently missing or outside of the current protected area.
